From Rational Billiards to Dynamics on Moduli Spaces
This short expository note gives an elementary introduction to the study of dynamics on certain moduli spaces and, in particular, the recent breakthrough result of Eskin, Mirzakhani, and Mohammadi. We also discuss the context and applications of this result, and its connections to other areas of mathematics, such as algebraic geometry, Teichmüller theory, and ergodic theory on homogeneous spaces.
متن کاملBraid groups and Hodge theory
This paper gives an account of the unitary representations of the braid group that arise via the Hodge theory of cyclic branched coverings of P, highlighting their connections with ergodic theory, complex reflection groups, moduli spaces of 1-forms and open problems in surface topology.
متن کاملErgodic Action of the Mapping Class Group on Moduli Spaces of Representations of Non-orientable Surfaces
Let M be a non-orientable surface with χ(M) < −1. We consider the moduli space of flat SU(2)-connections, or equivalently the moduli space of representations X (M) = Hom(π1(M), SU(2))/ SU(2). Let ΓM be the mapping class group ofM . There is a natural action of ΓM on X (M) and we show here that this action is ergodic with respect to the natural measure given by the pushforward of Haar measure. T...
متن کاملOn Atkin-Lehner correspondences on Siegel spaces
We introduce a higher dimensional Atkin-Lehner theory for Siegel-Parahoric congruence subgroups of $GSp(2g)$. Old Siegel forms are induced by geometric correspondences on Siegel moduli spaces which commute with almost all local Hecke algebras. We also introduce an algorithm to get equations for moduli spaces of Siegel-Parahoric level structures, once we have equations for prime l...
متن کاملAsymptotic Behaviour of Ergodic Integrals of ‘Renormalizable’ Parabolic Flows
Ten years ago A. Zorich discovered, by computer experiments on interval exchange transformations, some striking new power laws for the ergodic integrals of generic non-exact Hamiltonian flows on higher genus surfaces. In Zorich’s later work and in a joint paper authored by M. Kontsevich, Zorich and Kontsevich were able to explain conjecturally most of Zorich’s discoveries by relating them to th...
